Hydrodeoxygenation on nickel catalysts only takes place if the nickel is supported on an oxide where oxy-compound activation can take place. Furthermore increased activity for hydrodeoxygenation can be achieved with small nickel crystallites. The results give increased insight in the reaction mechanism and enables better design of catalysts.
