This study examines several novel nickel phosphide hydroprocessing catalyst compositions prepared by reducing Ni H phosphite hydroxide precursors in H2S/H2.  The results suggest that for nickel phosphide to become an industrially relevant catalyst it will have to contain crystals smaller than a few nm.
