Upgrading of pyrolysis oil is an important challenge that requires new developments in catalyst/process design to deal with problems such as severe catalyst deactivation, continuous regeneration, separation, hydrogen consumption, and retention of carbon, which are characteristics of these feedstocks. Different types of catalysts are tested for each family of compounds.
