Strong electrostatic adsorption has been used for the synthesis of Au-Pd/carbon catalysts.  Small (1.5 nm) Pd particles are first synthesized onto the carbon support, and Au complexes are selectively adsorbed onto them.  Bimetallic catalysts with a high degree of metal-metal interaction are produced. Detailed characterization is correlated with catalytic activity.
