Selective catalytic deoxygenation of fatty acids facilitates the conversion of lipid biomass to hydrocarbons for renewable liquid transportation fuels. Deoxygenation of caprylic acid over Pd/C requires hydrogen for catalyst stability. Alloying Pd with Au decreases catalytic activity suggesting that the decarboxylation reaction is structure sensitive.
