The turnover rates and selectivity of multipath catalytic hydrocarbon conversion reactions on monodisperse metal nanoparticles in the 1-10 nm range are dependent on their size and shape. Instruments have been developed that monitor the surfaces under reaction conditions on the molecular scale that reveal reasons for size and shape sensitivity.
