In situ environmental TEM studies on Ni/SiO2 catalyst for partial oxidation of methane shows the phase transformation of Ni to NiO and NiO back to Ni during the reaction. The mechanism for phase transformation pathway has a strong influence on the performance of the catalyst which will be discussed in detail.
