Ex-situ HRTEM and in situ XPS on ceria-soot mixtures evidence the formation of reduced ceria particles in the form of Ce6O11 under reaction conditions. This led to the conclusion that redox mechanism plays a role in the ceria-catalyzed soot oxidation
