The present contribution treats various aspects of low-temperature activation and oxidation of CH4 over platinum, palladium and alloyed Pt-Pd supported on alumina or ceria. Flow-reactor studies, synchronous in situ X-ray absorption and IR spectroscopy and mean-field kinetic modeling are central methods.
