This study focuses on how noble metals affect cobalt Fischer-Tropsch (FT) catalysts. Pt acts as the best reduction promoter through Pt-Co alloy formation confirmed by XAFS. Ru promotes reduction even though it preferentially deposits by La in the support. Re and Ru promoted catalysts have similar FT activity
