Structure sensitive catalytic surface chemistry can be studied comprehensively using Surface Structure Spread Single Crystals (S4Cs), single crystals that expose a continuous distribution of crystallographic orientations.  Dissociative adsorption of O2 on a Cu(111) S4C has been mapped as a continuous function of step density using XPS and STM.
