In the search for renewable sources of carbon, the importance of cellulose cannot be overstated. We present a system that is capable of fully converting concentrated cellulose feeds in high yields to hexitols, using only a minute acid concentration and a exceptionally active and selective bifunctional metal loaded zeolite catalyst.
