The N2O formation mechanism during the LNT regeneration is studied experimentally and by mathematical modelling. The main N2O source is internal re-oxidation of the NH3 that is formed locally under rich (reducing) conditions. A good agreement between the model and experimental results was achieved for both steady-state and lean/rich cycling.
