The present work investigates the elevated-temperature photocatalytic oxidation behavior of ethylene over a TiO2 catalyst bed. Photocatalytic oxidation rates decline rapidly as the catalyst bed temperature exceeds 300°C for all TiO2 catalysts. The loss of photocatalytic activity can be attributed to the non-radiative, multi-phonon recombination of photo-generated charge carriers.
