Rock-salt structure metal oxide nanosheets possessing the (111) facet as the primary surface represent a novel surface that can be utilized for low temperature methanol decomposition and Lewis base catalysis (ie. biodiesel transesterification). Additionally, use of these surfaces as supports for metal nanoparticles provides opportunities interesting new metal/support interfaces.
