The surface chemistry of ethylene glycol, 1,2-proapnediol, and various halohydrins has been studied on Pd(111) using TPD and HREELS. These results provide insight into how molecular structure affects the reactivity of hydroxyl groups and serve as an important step toward the design of highly selective catalysts for biorefining applications.
