Bifunctional carbon nanofiber supported Ni catalysts and sulfonated silica/carbon nanocomposites present promising approaches for direct catalytic transformation of cellulosic biomass into sugar alcohols and glucose, respectively, with the ability to control the cellulose conversion and product distribution.
