Addition of organic additives is essential for regenerated CoMo/Al2O3 to recover initial activity. In this respect, a new additive, maleic acid, was very efficient. Maleic acid can extract Co destroying CoMoO4 and forming cobalt maleate. The higher Co availability coupled with a redispersion of molybdic species enhances the hydrodesulfurization performance.
