The tubular laboratory reactor that behaves ideally for gas and gas/liquid reactions will likely suffer from external mass transfer limitations for purely liquid-phase reactions.   This paper outlines the use of surrogate reactions to estimate external mass transfer limitations for the scale-up of laboratory collected outside of the kinetically limited regime.
